Car HID Bulbs sizes and information:

HID Bulb sizes are available in many different colors and forms.  There are factory HID bulbs and aftermarket bulb sizes. Factory HID bulb sizes are D2S D2R D4S D1R D1S. Aftermarket HID bulb sizes include 880 9004 9005 9006 9006XS 9007 9008 9145  H1 H3 H4 H7 H8 H9 H10 H11 and H13.  Each vehicle uses a different size, and if your car came with factory Xenon’s, then you would require an OEM HID bulb for replacement.

Popular bulb sizes among aftermarket projector headlights are H1 Bulbs. While 9006 and H7 are very popular among BMWs and Mercedes. 9005 bulbs are usually for high beam on large amount of vehicles. H13 and H11 bulbs are mostly used on new vehicles.

All HID bulbs have a color temp rating in degrees Kelvin known as K value. The K value refers to the color of the light output fro the HID bulb. Color Temp is inversely proportional to light output. This means that the higher you are in the K scale the less bright the light output. a 4300K bulb may have an output of 1400 lm while a 14000K bulb may have an output of 1200 lm. This means the higher you go in the Kelvin scale the light output will decrease slightly.

K ratings come in 3000K 4300K 5000K 6000K 8000K 10000K and sometimes 12000K. Factory HID kits are always 4300K for the maximum light output. 4300K bulbs are usually made by Philips.
